Consumption is the very important issue in apparel industry. If fabric consumption deviates of any garment then manufacturer will not get order for the target price. So fabric price is bearing almost 34% to 45% of the total garments cost. If fabric consumption is wrong calculation then total garments cost will wrong calculation. It will higher quotation that the target price. On the other hand if consumption less then manufacture will loss this order. When anybody offer price to customers then you can cheek properly your own way. I will explain mathematical term to apply & how to find out easily fabric consumption. Hopefully, it will be helpful for your easy understanding about fabric consumption.

Here, given Measurement chart for your understanding
First of all we want to know fabric details for consumption.
We will Consider sample size-9
- Composition
- Fabric width & Cut able width
- Shrinkage.
Given
Fabric: 75% Cotton 23%polyester 2%Spandex
Shrinkage: L4%XW14%
Fabric Cut able width=56”
1Yardage=36”
We will consider as Mathematical term for consumption
(Length X Width)X2
56”X36”
We will calculate length
Length=Inseam+ Cuff+ Top of Back Rise + (Waist Band Height+ Allowance)
=21”+ (1.5”+1”) +13.75”+1.75”+1”)
=40”
We will calculate Width
Width=thigh-1” below crotch +allowance
=(10”+1)X2=22” (for Both Part)
Now, we will consider as shrinkage
Length=40”X4%=41.6”
Width=22”X14%=25.08”
So, we will apply formula for fabric Consumption
(Length X Width)X2 (for both parts)
56″X36″
(41.6”X25.08)X2
56″X36″
= 1.035 Yds
Now, we will consider as wastage 5% for fabric
=1.035 ydsX5%
=1.086 Yds/Pc
If we consider per doz then it will be
=1.08ydsX12
=13.04 yds/dz
Total consumption=1.086 Yds/pc
